Drake - Cameras / Good Ones (Interlude)

This is currently my favorite jawn off of “Take Care”. I love the overall sound of this song, that vintage r&b feel. The album isn’t great, in my opinion, but there’s some great melodies and amazing production on this album. Gotta hand it to Drake for creating a uniquely somber, overtly-sexual & refreshingly intellectual album, amidst a culture full of over-saturation and instant gratification. If you want to understand this album, you’re going to have to take some time to pick apart each song 1 by 1, and take (care) it as it is.

Death - Politicians In My Eyes

I was put onto this band about 2 years ago. Apparently these guys are pioneers of the punk music scene, but they never seemed to reach the mainstream. These guys have the most awesome sound, and it’s sad that an all African-American punk band in 1975 didn’t make it, or get the proper credit they deserved. These guys are underground legends!

Kendrick Lamar - Tammy’s Song

This song fucking blew my mind when I first heard it. The storytelling and lyrical composition in Tammy’s Song is amazing. Top that with a straight-to-the-point catchy hook and a unique flow and u have a very clean cut classic. The video itself was, ehh… it was okay. Although, not very much is needed to keep my attention visually since Kendrick already did a great job lyrically.

I must admit, this song got me thru some hard times. I love how it’s so poetic. The pacing of the instrumental mixed with the word placement makes it flow so perfectly. That’s 1 thing I really like about Blu, I feel like his words are carefully placed to evoke a certain emotion or feeling. Alliteration at it’s finest.

Hands down, 1 of my favorite bands of all-time. Sonically they put together amazing music, and Thom Yorke is a fucking genius. It’s actually kinda scary…. No really, the music has the potential to be kinda scary. But that’s what I love about it. Trippy videos, dangerous melodies, beautifully hurt vocals, & abstract lyrics. Radiohead is the shit!

Let me just start off by saying that Lindsay Lohan is a hot filthy cunt and I fucking love her. Minus the controversy and the bullshit, she’s quite the interesting person. I didn’t even know this short flick was in existence, and kudos to Theophilus for creating the perfect soundtrack to these visuals. When I first heard this song leak in early 2010, minus the visuals, I honestly didn’t get it. It’s not every day you think of someone covering a Tweet song (anybody remember her). And no, that’s not a Twitter reference. But Theophilus rediscovers why this song was such a hit and adds his own London swag to it, then voila, an unexpected hit is born. By the way, major shoutouts to Hudson Mohawke, 1 of my favorite producers/artists out right now for the sonic re-interpretation of this hip-hop classic.

Justice - Stress

This video reminds me of my College days (ahh, AIPH, the good ol’ Art School days). And no, I didn’t go around beating people up for no reason. Although, there was that 1 bar brawl……but, I digress. This video is truly a work of art. The soundtrack builds suspense as the gang wanders the streets causing havoc and everything down to the styling of the jackets is sick. The documentary feel of the video also helps give some sense of realism to this flash mob, and adds a dangerous effect to whether these kids are for real or just actors. Music in the midst of madness.

Sex, drugs, alcohol, love, and the overdose of it all. This video has been Hipster approved! The visuals are amazing, each scene is beautifully set with rich colors and vibrant energy. I feel like this relationship is real and I almost feel pity for their situation. Job well done on both parts. Not to mention, Rihanna is beyond $wag in the entire video. Major kudos on whoever came up with the visuals for this concept. Sidenote: 1 of my favorite scenes; the muddy moshpit!
